Grid Inspection Program
The Challenge
The grid resistors provide the critical circuit for the dynamic braking system. These components have a finite life and at some point require regular and thorough inspection.
Proposed Solution
With limited available resources and expertise onsite a changeout program was implemented. The mine purchased one complete set of new grids from ACS and installed these on truck #1. The grids removed from truck #1 were then sent to ACS. ACS cleaned and inspected each grid.
An upgrade/strengthening kit was installed on grids found to be in good condition, others were replaced with new. This set was then returned to site and the cycle repeated.
Final Outcome
The entire fleet was inspected, and grid integrity verified. The program ensured minimal downtime onsite and all outcomes were achieved as planned.
Timber transport boxes were utilized to ensure grids were transported safely to and from site and at the completion of the program site retained one complete set of grids in individual labelled boxes for their onsite inventory.
